Yellow triangles warn of hazards
A warning sign uses a triangular shape, black pictogram and yellow background with black edging. It draws attention to hazards such as electricity, corrosive substances, forklifts or slippery surfaces.
Red circles prohibit an action
A prohibition sign is round, with a black pictogram on white and a red border and diagonal bar. Common messages include no smoking, no entry and no unauthorised access.
Blue circles show a mandatory action
Mandatory signs identify an action or safeguard that must be followed, such as wearing eye protection or keeping a fire door shut.
Green identifies safe conditions
Green rectangular or square signs identify escape routes, emergency exits, first aid and other safe conditions. Direction arrows and route continuity need checking as a complete system.
Red rectangles identify fire equipment
